Laptops open digital doors for young people
In the newly reopened 3X3 Unites Academy, young people get the chance to develop their talents through workshops on entrepreneurship, storytelling and video production, among other things. The fact that they can do this is partly thanks to partner Zorgverzekeraar Zorg en Zekerheid, which donated 3×33 laptops for free.
“Health insurer Zorg en Zekerheid has been a loyal partner of ours for many years, but with this project we are really diving deeper together,” says Jesper Jobse on behalf of 3X3 Unites. “With our partners, we always try to see how they can contribute to our community and empower the young people. The laptops are a great example of that.”
When replacing the laptops at their office, Zorgverzekeraar Zorg en Zekerheid came up with the idea to make the used laptops available for free to the young people of 3X3 Unites. Together with 3X3 Unites, they came up with the plan to give the laptop as a welcome gift to the first 99 young people who signed up for the renewed 3X3 Unites Academy.
“The young people received the laptops on loan and must commit to attending a set number of workshops. If they show after six months that they are using the laptop well, they get to keep it,” Jesper explains. “The laptop has become an important part of the 3X3 Unites Academy. But they can also use it outside the academy, for school assignments, presentations and administration.”
According to both 3X3 Unites and Zorgverzekeraar Zorg en Zekerheid, a laptop can broaden the world of young people. They gain access to digital tools they otherwise wouldn’t have. “It’s an important tool for young people to continue developing themselves, especially now that so much is happening digitally,” Jesper says. “This partnership with Zorg en Zekerheid shows how we can work together to contribute to the empowerment of young people.”

“I teach PE classes and have to keep track of a lot of administration. I always did that on my phone, but I got distracted quickly because so many other messages came in. Now that I’ve received a laptop from Zorgverzekeraar Zorg en Zekerheid, I realize how nice it is. It works much more easily, and I’m not distracted by incoming notifications. I can focus better and work much more efficiently.”

“I organized the 3x3 Autumn Tournament in Haarlem. While preparing and during the tournament itself, I used the laptop a lot. I created the match schedules, and during the tournament the participants could quickly see where and when they had to play. The laptop from Zorgverzekeraar Zorg en Zekerheid made it much easier for me to organize a tournament properly.”
“For me, everything is now much clearer. I have all my work and files together for what I need for 3X3 Unites, which makes everything very organized. Besides being a 3X3 Leader, I’m also the local coordinator in Haarlem, which means I also have many administrative tasks that I can now do much more easily and quickly. Super nice.”

“I already took my laptop from Zorgverzekeraar Zorg en Zekerheid to the video-editing workshop. That was super handy. In the future, I want to edit photos and videos on my laptop myself. And at the end of my studies, I want to write my thesis on it.”
“I’ve also already used the laptop during activations for 3X3 Unites. During tournaments I keep track of the scores, and participants can see their team assignments on the laptop. I also use it as a timer. I’ve already noticed that the laptop helps me keep the community well connected.”
