Pilot Started for expansion of the 3X3 Leader Course
The 3X3 Leader Course has been the beating heart of 3X3 Unites for many years. During the course, young people develop important life skills through 3x3 basketball: from showing leadership to building a community and learning to coach positively. To prepare future 3X3 Leaders even better for their role, 3X3 Unites has started a pilot for the expansion of the 3X3 Leader Course.
3X3 Unites is adding a ninth session to the 3X3 Leader Course. During the ninth session, the young participants reflect on the personal growth they have gone through during the 3X3 Leader Course. They discuss what went well and less well, are given space to indicate which next steps they want to take, and what they think they need for that.“On the one hand, we want to lower the threshold even further for young people to move on within 3X3 Unites and make it even easier for them to take a next step”, says Melissa ’t Jong, education manager at 3X3 Unites.
For now, the 3X3 Leader Course concludes with the final event, which the participants work towards during the sessions. The final event will remain, but in the pilot an extra session is added afterwards. Melissa: “Besides reflecting on personal growth and already looking ahead to the next steps within 3X3 Unites, we also celebrate together what we have achieved with each other.”
For example, young people discuss in small groups what went well at the final event and what they would do differently next time. They also indicate individually what they want to continue doing in their neighbourhood, city, or within 3X3 Unites, and in which areas they want to further develop themselves. They also receive information about possible next steps, such as the reopened 3X3 Unites Academy.
The 3X3 Unites Academy is an in-depth programme for young people who have completed the 3X3 Leader Course. The goal of the academy is to keep the young people involved in the 3X3 Unites community and to offer them even more perspective and growth opportunities, both personally and professionally. 3X3 Unites does this through an inspiring and educational programme put together in collaboration with several partners.
“We will run the pilot in the coming period and see how we can respond even better to the needs of our own 3X3 Leaders”, Melissa concludes.Do you also want to become a 3X3 Leader yourself and develop your life skills through 3x3 basketball? Then sign up now.
