3X3 Merchandise Proves Popular at the 3X3 Festival
Among the basketball courts, food trucks and activities at the 3X3 Festival, the 3X3 Unites merchandise also attracted plenty of attention. Visitors could shop for hoodies, T-shirts, jerseys and other items that were developed by 3X3 Leaders together with artisanal graphic artist Shon Price.
Lakiesha Maanster was one of the 3X3 Leaders who worked at the merchandise stand throughout the weekend. “There are really happy vibes here”, she says. “It’s really cool to see all those kids running towards the jerseys. As soon as they buy something, some of them want to get their jersey signed by the well-known players straight away.”
About a year and a half ago, 3X3 Unites launched a project group dedicated to merchandise. The main goal: to involve 3X3 Leaders in developing their own merchandise. From on-court jerseys to streetwear. And from design and branding to product development and sales.“
The idea is that eventually we will have trained our own designer, graphic designer and product manager, for example”, says Toine Neggers, who by profession is a merchandise architect and coaches and mentors young people at 3X3 Unites while helping behind the scenes with the development and production of 3X3 Unites merchandise.
For the merchandise collection at the 3X3 Festival, 3X3 Unites collaborated with artisanal graphic artist Shon Price from Amsterdam. 3X3 Unites presented the creative concept to Shon, after which he created the artworks. Using those artworks, 3X3 Unites then worked on designing cool hoodies and T-shirts and determining the fit and fabrics.
Wherever you looked at the 3X3 Festival, you could see young people wearing 3X3 Unites merchandise. Not least because all youngsters participating in the 3x3 Rabo Street League Finals wore a 3X3 Unites jersey. At the start of the Rabo 3x3 Street League season, 3X3 Unites handed out no fewer than 600 sets.
In addition, many other visitors and, of course, the crew themselves were wearing 3X3 Unites merchandise. The crew was easily recognisable in their striking black outfits, which were fully sponsored by loyal partner Odido. “We are very grateful to them for that”, says Toine. “They are a very reliable partner and give us complete creative freedom. That is very pleasant.”
For Lakiesha, a weekend of selling merchandise at the 3X3 Festival has left her wanting more. “Yes, I really enjoyed selling the merchandise. Next time, I would also love to help think about the journey leading up to it.”
